A woman escaped without serious injury after she was involved in a collision with a car while riding her bicycle.

The incident happened on Upper Richmond Road in Barnes on Tuesday.

An appeal for witnesses has been issued by the police.

Police said: "On August 18 at around 6.35pm police attended a call to a cyclist on Upper Richmond Road.

"At the junction with Dover House Road there was a collision involving a car and a bicycle.

"The cyclist in her mid-20s has suffered grazing and injuries that are neither life changing or life threatening.

"She was seen by London Ambulance Service and taken to a hospital.

"The investigation is ongoing.

"If you were a witness to this incident please call 101 or tweet @MetCC and quote CAD 6497/18th Aug."

A relieved mum

The driver was urged to contact the police by Dr Helen Williams who said she is the cyclist's mother.

Dr Williams' widely seen tweet was shared more than 330 times and liked by 800 people.

She said the collision happened in Richmond Park, but was corrected by Royal Parks Police which said it was on Upper Richmond Road.

@helenjwc tweeted: "To the woman driver who an hour ago drove her car into my daughter on her bike in Richmond Park [sic] - and who drove off without leaving your details - you need to contact the police.

"Police taking statement and tracing woman driver. Daughter en route to hosp. Must be feeling bit better as she's cross."

She added: "Blown away by all the kind thoughts - thank you all.

"Just had a call and it's not broken & she's on her way home!

"Doctor was surprised and is sending X-ray for closer analysis. But we're all very, very relieved."
