A weather warning for snow and ice which currently covers most of the UK from Manchester northwards is heading our way.

A new Met Office alert for Greater London and southern parts of the country runs from midnight tonight (Sunday, December 27) until 6pm tomorrow.

The forecaster said people should be aware of:

  • some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths

We are in for a very cold night in Richmond, with temperatures reaching -3C.

The outlook for Monday is "sleet showers and light winds".

Even during the day it will only be 2-3C with bursts of sunshine in between light rain and sleet.

It follows very strong winds overnight, with the Royal Parks saying they would assess the situation for any damage this morning.
