A driver appears to have had a miraculous escape after crashing into a garden wall in Kew.

The single-vehicle incident happened shortly before 4am at the traffic lights junction of Kew Road and Mortlake Road.

The car caught alight after the crash and the wall has been destroyed.

A nearby resident said: "Another major collision next door to me. Nighttime speeding manic.

"Imagine if someone had been waiting to cross at the lights? Reminder of the danger of speeding and need for almost all London roads require traffic calming or speed cameras to achieve."

He added: "Hopefully no third parties were involved, but seeing the remains of car in garden hard to imagine driver wasn't injured, hopefully not serious."

A spokesperson for the London Fire Service said: "Firefighters were called to a car alight on Mortlake Road. There were no reports of any injuries.

"The brigade was called at 3.45am and the incident was over by 4.06am. A fire crew from Chiswick Fire Station was at the scene."

Police said: "Police attended at 0350hrs, to a car on fire. Occupants checked over by LAS as a precaution. No arrests made. No other parties involved."
