A third man has been charged in connection with a "smash-and-grab" robbery at a jewellers in Richmond town centre.

Detectives from the Met Police's Flying Squad arrested 28-year-old Deniz Mehmet, of Purfleet Road, Aveley, on Wednesday, 8 April.

He has since been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Friday morning (10 April).

The charge relates to an incident at Gregory & Co Jewellers on Paved Court at around 10.34am on Saturday, 31 January.

Two other men have already been charged as part of the investigation.

Robert Clarke, 50, of Lever Lane, Rochford, and Lee Ramsey, 46, of Hastingwood Road, Harlow, were arrested on 31 March and appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court the following day.

Both were remanded into custody and are next due to appear at Kingston Crown Court on 28 April.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Mather, from the Met's Flying Squad, said officers have been working for months on the case.

He said: "Across the Met we are working hard to tackle retail crime, including robbery and shoplifting, as we know the significant impact these incidents have on shop workers and communities.

"We have carried out extensive enquiries into this incident over the past few months and have now charged three people."

The investigation remains ongoing.
