By Cesar Medina 1st Feb 2026
Thieves armed with hammers smashed the front window of a Richmond jeweller before making off with various items as staff attempted to stop them.
Footage circulating on social media shows two masked and hooded men using a hammer to break the window of Gregory & Co jewellers on Paved Court before pulling back the damaged glass yesterday morning (Saturday, 31 January).
As the men place items into a blue bag, one member of staff can be seen attempting to remove items from the display and return them into the shop. The men then ran off towards Richmond Green.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "An investigation is under way following an aggravated burglary at a jeweller in Paved Court, Richmond.
"Officers were called at 10.34am on Saturday, 31 January, after suspects smashed the front window of the store and stole a number of items. No injuries were reported.
"Enquiries are ongoing and any witnesses are asked to call 101, quoting CAD 2478/31Jan. To remain anonymous, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
"There have been no arrests."
One local resident on Paved Court, reacting to the incident, told Nub News: "It's not something that is common here. We feel for the owners and the effect it has had on the business. It's affected the community and feels like an intrusion on everyday life.
"It's a beautiful community, they're a respected business, and I'm sure things will go back to normal."
In response to the robbery, Gregory & Co said today (Sunday, 1 February) on social media: "Yesterday, Saturday 31st January, our family shop was raided.
"We're shaken but thankfully, we are all ok. The well wishes, support and kindness we've received from our wonderful customers, neighbours and passers by has been overwhelming,
"Thank you. All customers items were and remain securely locked in our safes. We are closed but will reopen later this week. Greg, Margaret, Rebecca & Tilly."
