A teenager who repeatedly stabbed a man in a early-morning attack at Barnes railway station has been jailed, following an investigation by British Transport Police (BTP).
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm (GBH) and was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 12 December.
He was handed five years in prison, followed by a further three years and four months on licence.
The court heard that the incident took place at around 7am on 26 September 2024, just outside the entrance to platform one at Barnes station.
CCTV footage showed the teenager and the victim talking together before walking into a wooded area near the station.
Moments later, the victim was seen running back towards the station, shouting that he had been stabbed.
The teenager followed, pushed the victim to the ground and stabbed him several more times in front of horrified commuters.
After the attack, the teenager went back onto the station platform to collect his bicycle before fleeing the scene.
Emergency services were called and the victim was rushed to hospital, where he underwent life-saving surgery after suffering four stab wounds and multiple internal injuries.
Detectives carried out urgent enquiries, reviewing CCTV footage that showed the teenager returning home after the attack.
A pair of headphones recovered from the scene was later found to contain DNA matching the teenager.
He was arrested at his home address shortly afterwards.
Detective Sergeant Marc Farmer from British Transport Police said: "This teenager acted with horrific levels of violence in a sustained and frenzied attack, launched in broad daylight in front of morning commuters. It is only by sheer luck that this was not a murder investigation.
"I am very satisfied to see him now put behind bars for an extended period of time."
"There is absolutely no place for violence on the railway network. If you ever need us or see something that concerns you, you can text British Transport Police discreetly on 61016."
