In a personal disaster as regular as the summer tides, a car parked alongside the Thames was swamped on Sunday afternoon.

On busy weekends, visitors attempt to escape the wrath of traffic wardens by parking on the slipway next to Richmond Bridge, in East Twickenham.

However, the ruse routinely results in vehicles being flooded up to the steering wheel and beyond as the tidal Thames does its work.

After winching the vehicles from the water, it was left to dry out on the slipway.

Similar events routinely occur on the riverside at Twickenham.

There are signs alerting visitors to the danger, however it appears many fail to spot them.

The Fire Brigade and police raced to the scene on Sunday lunchtime amid fears someone may have been trapped, however, fortunately, this proved not to be the case.

After winching the vehicles from the water, it was left to dry out on the slipway.
