1. Ben & Imo- Orange Tree Theatre

About: Benjamin Britten is under pressure and on a deadline.

He has just nine months to write a wildly ambitious new opera to celebrate the Coronation of Elizabeth II – and he isn't entirely sure he wants to.

And then he meets Imogen Holst: daughter of Gustav, multi-talented musician, and all-round force of nature.

As storms lash the Aldeburgh beaches, Ben and Imo race against the clock to compose an opera fit for a monarch – and test the very edges of their passionate friendship.

2. VE Day 80 open afternoon - The Poppy Factory

Join The Poppy Factory on Thursday, 8 May for a special celebration to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day (credit: Image supplied).

About: The Poppy Factory's open afternoon will coincide with national events to remember the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Its veteran workers and their families were among those who took to the streets of London to celebrate the end of the war in 1945. 

Chat to expert hosts and volunteers, watch special VE Day presentations and view lesser-seen parts of our historic factory.

Hot drinks, refreshments and special VE Day 80 Victoria sponge cake will be on offer, with music from the era adding to the spirit of celebration.

3. OSO Book Club 2025 - OSO Arts Centre

Join OSO Arts Centre's monthly Book Club to meet fellow bookworms (credit: Image supplied).

About: Fuel your love of reading, explore a diverse ranges of novels and share your thoughts over a cup of coffee at OSO Arts Centre's café.

Capital is a post-crash state-of-the nation novel told with compassion and humour, featuring a cast of characters that you will be sad to leave behind.

4. Nature Photography Walk - Barnes Common

About: Step into the beauty of Barnes Common with local nature photographer Giuseppe Intrieri as your guide.

This inspiring photo walk will not only connect you with nature but also elevate your photography game.

Learn to craft captivating compositions, master the art of natural light, and explore creative angles that make your photos pop.

5. The Bearcat Running Club - The Turk's Head

The Bearcat Running Club meet inside the Turks Head Pub at 8.30am every Sunday (credit: The Bearcat Running Club).

About: The ethos of the club is "the people come first, the running comes a very close second". 

It is a hugely supportive group of on average 70-90 runners who meet up and run in seven different ability groups every Sunday at The Turk's Head with a UKA Leader in Running Fitness in each group.
