A brand-new restaurant bringing modern Indian cuisine to residents has launched in Kew.

Rangroot has enjoyed its first week after opening on 1 April at 100 Kew Road, which used to be the site of Chatora.

The new owners of the restaurant hope to take aspects of what made Chatora a hit among locals, with new additions and twists.

A spokesperson told Nub News: "We are very excited to be opening at 100 Kew Road because this venue has been a part of the community and has been loved by the community for the last six years.

"We are keeping aspects which were loved by the community, and it is now evolving into Rangroot."

The restaurant has received a refurb, offering customers a "warm" and "comfortable" dining experience, as well as serving an array of dishes inspired by different regions of India.

"Rangroot is modern Indian cuisine with inspiration for dishes that go back to the 20th century," said the spokesperson.

"The food will be a combination of curries and seafood, covering the entire region of India, but at the same time featuring food from a region which was ranked seventh in last year's Atlas food map awards – Punjab."

Drawing on culture and history from the region, Rangroot's name comes from the Punjabi word for 'recruit' or newly enlisted soldier in the army.

The spokesperson added: "Going back to the World Wars, Rangroot was the term used for new soldiers, many of whom fought for the British Army, so we are saying that we are the new recruits of Richmond."

Bringing the history and dishes to life is Rangroot's tight-knit team of 10, including chefs with experience in various central London restaurants.

"Everything will be freshly made. We are bringing in a dedicated pastry chef, so Kew and Richmond can expect delicious desserts," continued the spokesperson.

Rangroot's food is suitable for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans. To learn more about the restaurant and its offering, click here.
