Seating fenced off at Richmond Park cafes

It's been a stunning spot to get some much needed fresh air and exercise in this challenging year.

But Richmond Park is not exempt from the rules put in place to tackle Covid-19.

Under Tier 3 which Richmond moved into this week, cafes cannot host any dine-in customers and may only run a takeaway or delivery service.

The kiosks and cafes in Richmond Park as a result have had to remove their outdoor seating areas.

Colicci cafe inside Roehampton Gate has stacked up and fenced off its benches.

The same has happened at the kiosks near Broomfield Hill, Pen Ponds and Pembroke Lodge.

Pembroke Lodge itself has also moved to a takeaway only service, meaning customers unfortunately can't sit down for a bite to eat or drink.

Plea for donations

The charity which runs Richmond Park said its finances have taken a "significant" drop as a result of the coronavirus.

In a message to supporters the Royal Parks asked for donations.

"It's been a spectacular start to the season across the parks and we're delighted to see so many people getting outside, enjoying themselves and staying active at the end of the year," the charity said.

"We believe free access to open green space is more important than ever for our health and wellbeing, especially in cities like ours.

"That's why we've worked through the challenges this year has brought to keep Richmond Park and the other Royal Parks open for everyone who has needed them.

"It costs tens of millions of pounds every year to care for these beautiful and historic parks, and the impact of Covid has hit the charity hard as we face a significant drop in income.

"If you value your Royal Parks, please consider making a gift. It will make all the difference to their future."
