Commenting on this morning's announcement that Ed Davey has been elected leader of the Liberal Democrats, Richmond Park MP Sarah Olney said:

"I'm delighted that Ed Davey has won the election to be the next leader of the Liberal Democrats.

"Ed was the person who first persuaded me to put myself forward to be Parliamentary candidate in Richmond Park, and I owe him a great deal.

"I've always admired his commitment to liberal values, to the party, but also to his family and his community.

"It was thanks to Ed's work as Energy Secretary while in government that the UK currently generates so much of its energy supply from renewable sources, a demonstration of what Liberal Democrats can do when in power.

"I look forward to working with Ed as a member of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Party and am optimistic about the next few years for our party under his leadership."
