The Richmond & Twickenham Greens say new leader Zack Polanski is "the right person to lead the party".

Following his landslide victory last week over MPs Adrian Ramsay and Ellie Chowns' joint bid, the London Assembly member was elected leader with 20,411 votes to their 3,705.

Promising to lower bills, nationalise water companies, and replace the Labour Party, local Greens feel he is "ready to face that challenge".

South Richmond Green Councillor Chas Warlow told Nub News: "We fully support Zack as the new leader of the Green Party of England & Wales.

"We also support our two Deputy Leaders, Mothin Ali and Rachel Millward.

"Zack has already hit the ground running since his election, appearing in national media to set out our party's strong and bold political agenda for the much-needed change in this country.

"We are in the midst of an ecological and economic crisis: as Greens, we recognise that environmental sustainability goes hand in hand with social and racial justice.

"We believe Zack is the right person to lead the party as it steps up a gear."

In 2013, while working as a hypnotherapist, Polanski made claims that he could help women increase the size of their breasts using his mind.

Despite his apology, Labour's press team reshared The Sun's article about his comments, writing: "Meet Zack Polanski. This is the person the Greens just elected as their new leader."

Warlow, however, feels those claims from 12 years ago do not reflect Polanski or his current views.

"This is an exciting time in UK politics as people realise that the old two-party arrangement is in its death throes," he said.

"It's time for change: electoral reform and a new social contract — one that creates cohesion rather than foments division.

"The Green Party is ready to lead that movement and Zack is ready to face that challenge."

Born in Salford, Greater Manchester, Polanski joined the Green Party in 2017, having previously been a member of the Liberal Democrats.

He was elected to the London Assembly in 2021 before becoming Deputy Leader of the Greens in 2022.
