"Richmond please."

Those are the first words spoken by Sir David Attenborough in a new documentary entitled 'Wild London'.

Premiering on BBC One on January 1, the programme details the "surprisingly rich wildlife" of north London.

Setting the scene on the new show, Sir David says in a black cab to Richmond: "Throughout my life I have had the good fortune to have travelled around the world, witnessing many great natural spectacles.

"But this is the place to which I have always returned - a sprawling mega-city may seem no home for a nature-lover like me but there is a wild side to London.

"My city is surprisingly alive with all sorts of animals and full of remarkable natural spectacles."

Sir David describes the park as a "refuge" and "source of inspiration".
