Richmond estate agents' plans for new signs denied

An estate agency in Richmond has had its plans for new signs refused.
Antony Roberts Estate Agents' proposals to revamp the shopfront of 5A Dome Buildings, The Square were denied by Richmond Council.
The application included plans to bring back-illuminated projected lettering 'THE GALLERY' fixed to the outside of the building, with gold lettering on a white background.
In addition the estate agent intended to install a double-sided internally illuminated projecting box sign with a routed acrylic face.
However, the Council rejected the plans due to the designs appearing "incongruous and unsympathetic" to the surrounding street scene.
In its decision letter, a planning officer said: "The proposed signage, by reason of its siting, scale and design, would appear as an ad hoc, incongruous and unsympathetic addition to the host building's elevation and the street scene, thereby harming visual amenity, including the character and appearance of the host property, which is a Grade II Listed Building and the character and appearance of the Central Richmond Conservation Area."
Antony Roberts has been buying and selling properties in Richmond Borough for the past 25 years.
