Richmond Council is hosting an open day to showcase inclusive sports offerings from across the borough, to improve accessibility and encourage residents to be more active.

RISE (Richmond upon Thames Inclusive Sport and Exercise) provides a varied programme of activities for people of all ages with special educational needs and disabilities.

The open day will showcase a variety of inclusive and disability-specific sport and exercise activities, tailored to accommodate diverse needs.

Cllr Piers Allen, Lead Member for Health, said: "The RISE Open Day is a fantastic opportunity for any of our residents to discover the joys of sport and exercise – come along and we hope we will be able to introduce you to your new favourite way to move more, every day.

"This event is part of our Richmond Moves for a Healthier Borough campaign, which is delivering on the Council's commitment to fostering a community where everyone, regardless of ability, has access to local activities and support to help them get active in ways they enjoy.

"These initiatives play a vital role in fostering more active, healthier lives for our residents."

The event will feature a range of sports and exercise options, including cycling, dance, football, multi-sport, rugby, and basketball.

Individuals of all ages and ability levels are welcome to participate. Attendees will have a chance to explore these activities, facilitated by experienced instructors who specialise in inclusive programming.

This open day aligns with our broader Health and Wellbeing Strategy, which aims to improve community health and encourage residents to lead more active lifestyles.

Through initiatives such as RISE and Richmond Moves, the council continue to support accessible and low-cost programmes that promote inclusivity in physical activity.

Residents do not need to register to attend and the RISE Event is open to individuals of all ages and abilities level.

If individuals have specific support needs, it is requested they attend with a carer or personal assistant.

Participants under 16 should ensure a parent or carer remains onsite.
