The Friends of Twickenham Green have decided to halt accepting donations for Afghan refugees after being overwhelmed by the generosity of local families.

The group dropped a huge consignment of clothing and other essentials to the Afghanstani and Central Asian Association in Feltham on Monday.

The Association has received so many items and offers of help that it has more than enough to meet the needs of refugees arriving in the area.

The donations were handed over by Friends committee member, Sandra Roberts.

Surplus toys and books collected by the group, will be donated to charity shops in the area.

Plans to accept further donations at the United Reformed Church, First Cross Road, have been called off.
