Rail passengers travelling through Richmond are facing disruption this afternoon after a person was hit by a train between Clapham Junction and Putney.

According to South Western Railway, all lines towards Barnes, Hounslow and Richmond were initially blocked following the incident.

Train services running to and from Richmond Station may be cancelled, delayed or revised, with disruption expected until at least 4pm today (15 May).

South Western Railway said emergency services and railway response teams are currently on site.

While London-bound lines towards Clapham Junction and Waterloo have now reopened, Wandsworth Town railway station is not being served in either direction.

The disruption is affecting local South Western Railway services, while some longer-distance trains to Reading and Windsor are being diverted, leading to extended journey times.

Passengers travelling between Richmond and central London are being advised to use alternative routes where possible, including the London Overground, Underground and local bus services.

London Overground services between Richmond and Clapham Junction are currently accepting rail tickets at no extra cost.

Alternative Underground routes include journeys via Waterloo, Westminster and Richmond using the Jubilee and District lines.

South Western Railway apologised for the disruption and urged passengers to check before travelling.
