Queen's Road in Richmond Park named among London’s top five speeding hotspots

Newly released figures show that Richmond's Queen's Road in Richmond Park is among the top five locations in London for speeding offences.
The data, compiled by Legal Expert from Met Police figures, reveals a staggering 776,553 speeding offences were recorded across Greater London in the year ending in March 2025.
That includes 772,123 caught by speed cameras and 4,430 by officers, the equivalent of 89 offences every hour.
The figures show that nearly half of all speeding offences (45%) were committed on roads with a 20mph speed limit, while only one in ten occurred on roads with limits of 50mph or above.
The Richmond Park offence rate places Queen's Road just behind hotspots such as The Drive in Ilford, Camden Road, and Eastern Way.
Top Roads for Speeding in London (TORs or FPNs issued):
- The Drive, Ilford – 78
- Camden Road, N7 – 71
- Eastern Way – 68
- A12 near Olympic Park – 66
- Queen's Road, Richmond Park – 60
- A41 Hendon Way, NW11 - 53
- A20 Sidcup Bypass - 44
- Trinity Road, Wandsworth, SW18 - 44
- North Cray Road, Bexley - 43
- A3/Robin Hood Way SW20 - 41
While these numbers are relatively low compared to the hundreds of thousands of automated offences, they reflect hotspots where police are issuing direct warnings or fines.
Some of the most extreme cases involved speeds of up to 140mph in 60mph zones. The worst offender was clocked by a speed camera on the M4 eastbound between Junctions 4 and 3 in March 2025.
Other top speeds recorded by officers include 133mph on the M1 near Junction 2 in NW7.
Speeding carries a minimum penalty of £100 and three points on a driving licence. Accumulating 12 points within three years typically results in a driving ban.
Based on the number of offences, the potential value of fines issued across London would be over £77.6 million.
