Primary schools in Richmond face a delay in reopening.

The youngest pupils in many London boroughs and across the South East will not be returning to schools next week.

Interestingly however some London boroughs with more cases than Richmond will be returning to primary school.

This includes schools in the neighbouring Kingston upon Thames.

Children of key workers will still be able to attend, and early years provision will continue.

The closure of primary schools will be reviewed after 13 January and by 18 January, Boris Johnson has said.

Richmond Park MP Sarah Olney said: "I am told that the reasons for local authorities being on the list of contingency measures for primary schools is a) hospital capacity, b) infection rates and c) increase in speed of transition.

"But I am pressing for more information."
