Ponds in Richmond Park are being drained to remove silt and protect them for the future.

The Royal Parks charity gave an update on the works:

"You may have noticed we've been undertaking works on some of the ponds in Richmond Park.

"These works may look extreme, but removing silt and controlling invasive plant species will restore richer habitats for the park's wildlife, including dragonflies and aquatic invertebrates, and amphibians such as the rare great crested newt.

"These works have been delivered through our Mission: Invertebrate programme with support of players of People's Postcode Lottery."
