Polling stations are open across the Richmond Borough today (Thursday, 7 May) as residents head to the polls to elect all 54 councillors on London Borough of Richmond upon Thames Council.

Voters have until 10pm tonight to cast their ballots in what is expected to be a closely watched set of local elections across London and the rest of the UK.

The elections are seen as a major test for political parties nationally, with Labour, the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats, Greens, Reform UK and independents all hoping to make gains in councils across the country.

In Richmond Borough, the Liberal Democrats currently control the council under leader Gareth Roberts and are aiming to retain their strong majority.

The Liberal Democrats won 48 of the borough's 54 seats in the last local elections in 2022 and currently hold 49 seats following a by-election gain in Hampton North in 2024. The Greens hold five seats, while the Conservatives no longer have representation on the council.

Polling stations opened at 7am and will remain open until 10pm, with voters required to bring valid photo ID in order to vote in person.

Across London, all 32 borough councils are being contested totalling up to more than 1,800 councillors hoping to be elected .

Residents in Richmond Borough can find polling station information and election details via Richmond Council's elections page here.
