PHOTO GALLERY: remembering Beast from the East in Richmond

Nearly three years ago Richmond ground to a halt as huge amounts of snow fell and covered the town.

The occasion became known as Beast from the East - because freezing air was rushed over to the UK from Siberia via an unusual polar vortex weather system.

There was so much snow on the ground that schools were closed because teachers and pupils couldn't get there.

Residents had to work from home because buses and trains were badly disrupted and it wasn't safe to drive on the roads.

Many people were trapped inside their homes, with their means of transport out of action.

Of course, others seized the moment and headed outside for fun in the snow.

There are new reports today that a new Beast from the East is on the way.

While it doesn't appear that Richmond will be facing such severe weather again any time soon, the borough did see a smattering of snow on Friday[l].

Richmond resident Andrew Garrett shared seven photos with us from the Beast from the East of February 2018.
