Petersham’s visionary photographer recognised in King’s Birthday Honours

Nick Knight, the visionary photographer and video maker whose work spans fashion, together with music royalty and the real thing has been awarded a CBE.

The Petersham resident is among a special group from all walks of life whose talent and dedication have been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours.

Nick rose to fame for his startling and influential work in the world of fashion.

The Petersham resident is among a special group from all walks of life whose talent and dedication have been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours.

Remarkably, his 1992 campaign photograph for fashion brand Jil Sander was sold by Phillips auction house at the record-breaking price of around £240,000.

His unique eye and approach made him much sought-after in the music world, which saw him direct videos for Björk; Lady Gaga's single 'Born This Way', as well as Kanye West's 'Bound 2' and 'Black Skinhead'.

In 2016, he photographed American rapper/singer Travis Scott for his sophomore album Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.

And in the same year, he was commissioned to shoot official an portraits of Queen Elizabeth with Prince Charles for Her Majesty's 90th birthday.

On the news of being made a CBE – Commander of the most excellent order of the British Empire – he said: "I am incredibly proud and absolutely delighted to have been honoured with a CBE for my services to Fashion and Photography, in the King's Birthday Honours List."
