The Royal Parks have released images of the proposed new design for a café at Roehampton Gate in Richmond Park.

This will replace the current facilities: temporary structures that were built almost 20 years ago after a fire destroyed the original buildings.

In a recent announcement, the Royal Parks said these "do not offer the capacity or modern amenities required to serve park visitors."

The café has been designed with the park's wildlife in mind, promoting biodiversity through improved landscaping around the site.

A new car park entrance and cycling infrastructure will also be created.

Park visitors and locals alike are being invited to ask questions and give feedback on the designs at a number of public engagement sessions in early April.

  • 10am-1pm, Saturday 6 April, Roehampton Café
  • 11am-2pm, Friday 12 April, Pen Ponds

The new café, part of the 'Roehampton Restored' project, will be BREEAM-certified: a building standard granted to sustainable and environmentally-friendly buildings.

Paul Richards, Richmond Park Manager, The Royal Parks, said: "We're really excited about our proposals for the upcoming project at Roehampton Gate, which we know people have been looking forward to for a while.

"We're looking forward to welcoming as many people as possible to the park to find out more about the proposals."
