MP calls for PM to go - and end the chaos

By Rory Poulter 5th Jul 2022

The Richmond MP, Sarah Olney, has called for Boris Johnson to go amid a Cabinet meltdown tonight.

The resignation of the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, and Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, would normally spell the end for a Prime Minister, however others have pledged loyalty to Johnson.

Sarah Olney wrote: "Boris Johnson has got to go.

"His Government is in chaos and he has failed our country. The public deserves better."

The Lib-Dem leader and Kingston MP, Ed Davey, joined the calls for Johnson's resignation, saying: "A House of Cards built on lies and deceit comes crashing down. Go and go now. You have discredited our great country long enough."

The London mayor, Sadiq Khan, said: "Britain deserves better than Boris Johnson. Londoners know it, the country knows it, and now so does his own Cabinet."

The Lib-Dem deputy leader of Richmond Council, Alexander Ehmann, described the resignations as 'potentially seismic'.

Johnson supporters, including Jacob Rees Mogg, Nadine Dorries, Priti Patel, went public to confirm their support.

Rees Mogg said Johnson has a mandate from the British people to govern the country, plus a majority in the House of Commons.
