The McDonald's in Richmond faces being closed for weeks follow a fire in the roof on Saturday.
Thick smoke was seen in the sky above the fast food outlet in The Quadrant close to the station.
There was severe disruption on roads through the town centre and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "Our Richmond restaurant closed after a fire on the roof. The fire and rescue service attended and contained the fire.
"The restaurant will remain closed until further notice."
The McDonald's has been the focus of antisocial behaviour involving groups travelling to the area from other boroughs during the summer months in recent years.
The fire and closure triggered a row on Nextdoor with some people celebrating the news and arguing it should not re-open.
One contributor said: "Obesity is a becoming a serious problem in the UK. Obese adults consumed the highest percentage of their calories from fast food. Fast food, sugar, portion size and obesity are intrinsically linked.
"In 2014/15 the NHS spent £6.1 billion on treating obesity-related ill health, this is forecast to rise to £9.7 billion per year by 2050."
Another responded, saying: "Some very sanctimonious people on here. You do know there's no byelaw forcing you to go in there.
"For anyone working in the evenings, there is literally nowhere else to get a hot drink or something to eat in Richmond.
"Kids will, and always have, liked being with their friends after school and places they can go to are pretty limited.
"As for obesity, you can eat a very bad diet without ever setting foot in a McDonald's."
There are other fast food outlets nearby, including a new restaurant in the American chicken chain Popeye's and KFC.
