Marathon star Becky Briggs – a student at St Mary's University – claims victory in Manchester

St Mary's student Becky Briggs won the Therme Manchester Marathon on Sunday with a huge personal best - securing her place in the Commonwealth Games later this year.
The tearful 22-year-old, who trains regularly in both Richmond and Bushy parks, took five minutes off her personal best to finish in four seconds over 2hours and 29 minutes.
The time reached the qualifying standards for the Commonwealth Games as well as the World Championships and Olympic Games.
Speaking at the finish line, she said: "I can't believe it as I didn't feel great before the marathon. I've beaten the qualifying times! It was great conditions and it's a great race."
Videos of Becky in tears as she crossed the line have gone viral.
Celebrating the win on Instagram she said: "I'm overwhelmed by all the lovely messages,
"From all the videos of the finish, I think it's pretty clear how much that meant today, running has broken and built me."
Becky, who is studying Sports and Exercise Nutrition, has talked of her recovery from an eating disorder as a youngster and has become a champion for sufferers.
The win and time represent a remarkable achievement for a woman of her age and confirms her status as a future star of British athletics. The success means she is now the European U23 Marathon Record Holder.
Originally from Yorkshire, she has been studying at St Mary's in Twickenham, which is renowned for producing high achieving long distance runners with many training at its Sir Mo Farrah track.
Following an earlier win, she said: "I absolutely love baking; I study Sport and Exercise Nutrition and really enjoy trying to make delicious food while focusing on incorporating in specific nutrients.
"I often share this on my Instagram: becky_athleat where I share my training and positivity.
"One day I hope to be a qualified nutritionist focusing on how to fuel properly as an athlete by helping others, especially those struggling with Relative Energy Deficiency Syndrome, something I have previously struggled with, an issue common in the athletic world."
