Police are investigating reports of the attempted abduction of an eight-year-old boy.

The incident is said to have happened at about 6pm on Tuesday evening on Sheen Lane and is understood to have involved a white male in his 60's.

According to local reports, it happened outside the library on Sheen Lane, as the boy's mother was putting some things into her car.

It is alleged that a man grabbed the boy and tried to drag him off.

Residents reported that the police were in Sheen on Wednesday making enquiries in the shops, however this has not been confirmed.

The incident has alarmed local parents who use the area and triggered warnings to ensure youngsters do not walk home from school alone.

There has been no official public police statement about the incident on Tuesday.

The police were asked by Nub News today – Thursday - if they were aware of the incident and would like any help from the public or witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for the press office in the Met's south west command said: "We are aware."

He suggested there may be an update from officers who are investigating the report.
