The boss of a Mediterranean fast-food chain location in Richmond reveals it closed due to not 'making sense' financially.

Leon, located at 37 George Street, shut its doors on Friday, 5 December after operating on the high street since 2017.

Its red signage has been removed and the windows covered, while staff were seen wheeling out equipment during the day.

In a sign placed on the doors, Leon told customers: "We're sorry to say that, due to unforeseen circumstances, we've had to temporarily close this restaurant.

"Please check the app to find your nearest LEON. We're working as hard as we can to get back open again.

"Sorry for any inconvenience."

However, Leon CEO John Vincent told Nub News that "emotionally" he wanted to keep the store open but "financially" it would not be possible.

He said: "Emotionally we would love to keep LEON Richmond open. Financially it just doesn't make sense to do so.

"I hope that for the good of the community someone will step into our shoes soon.

"We are trying to help the LEON team find other jobs either in LEON or elsewhere. Thank you to all our Richmond guests for visiting us over the last few years.

"We hope to be back in the neighbourhood at some stage."

The nearest restaurant to the former George Street branch is inside Hammersmith Broadway.
