In a recent communication to its members, the Labour Party has announced it will not seriously contest the constituency of Richmond Park at the next election.

The Labour Party has called the constituency a "non-battleground seat", as they began to select their election candidates.

At the last election, Liberal Democrat MP, Sarah Olney beat the Conservative Party while Labour trailed behind in third place with just 5.2% of the vote.

The news from Labour means the next election will yet again be a straight fight between the Liberal Democrats and Conservative party.

This follows the recent 2022 local election results in both Richmond and Kingston, which saw the Liberal Democrats hold both Councils with increased majorities.

Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park, Sarah Olney said:  "It's clear that Richmond Park will once again be a two horse race between the Liberal Democrats and a desperately out of touch Conservative party at the next election.

"Even Labour have now admitted they cannot win here."

She added: "The Conservative party is too busy fighting amongst themselves to govern this country.

"They have run our local health services into the ground, allowed the dumping of filthy sewage into our rivers and failed to help people with the cost of living crisis."

"Enough is enough. It is high time we kicked this failing government out of office and people in Richmond Park know that the only way to do that here is to vote Liberal Democrat."
