Kew retirement development reaches key construction milestone

A new retirement community in Kew has reached a major construction milestone as developers celebrate the "topping out" of the building.
The Watermark, located on Melliss Avenue, is a purpose-built integrated retirement community being delivered by Elysian Residences.
The milestone was marked with a ceremony attended by project partners including Octopus Capital and Pension Insurance Corporation plc, who are working together to fund and deliver the scheme.
Set across under two acres near the River Thames, the development will feature 88 retirement apartments, alongside a guest suite and a range of shared facilities designed to support wellbeing and community life.
Plans include healthcare and therapy spaces, as well as leisure amenities such as a gym, swimming pool, library and two restaurants.
The project is being built by McAleer & Rushe and designed by Collado Collins, with landscaping by Macfarlane + Associates.
Developers say the design has been shaped around its riverside setting, making the most of its location close to Kew Gardens and Kew village, while retaining many of the existing trees and green spaces along the Thames path.
Gavin Stein, Chief Executive of Elysian Residences, said: "This is a rare riverside setting, close to Kew Gardens and the village.
"Our focus has been on creating well-designed homes, supported by exceptional service, shared spaces and carefully considered amenities. We look forward to welcoming homeowners and seeing the community take shape."
Patrick Coyle, Project Director at McAleer & Rushe, added that the milestone reflected strong collaboration between partners and a shared ambition to deliver a high-quality development for the local area.
The scheme is funded through Senior Living Investment Partners, a joint venture involving Pension Insurance Corporation and Octopus Capital.
Max Cawthorn, Head of PIC Capital Strategy, said the development aims to have a lasting positive impact on both residents and the wider community, with engagement planned with local residents and schools.
The Watermark is expected to be completed in spring 2027, with further details on pricing and availability to be announced.
