Petersham Nurseries is to be transformed to host a summer fete, including an extravaganza of street food, picknicking and performances, to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The event will take place over the Jubilee weekend – on Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4 - to mark Her Majesty's 70th year on the throne.

Visitors will be greeted by a patriotic – red, white and blue - grand installation of seasonal plants and flowers that will be at their best in June, crafted by Director of Horticulture Thomas Broom-Hughes.

The nurseries will take cues from the street parties happening up and down the country and there will be no requirement to make a booking to attend.

Stalls will be serving everything from finger food classics such as coronation chicken sandwiches, Scotch eggs, and sausage rolls, to home-made piadine – grilled flatbreads - drawing on Italian flavours.

In true street party style, smoky grills will be fired up for barbecue favourites, while the cream tea station will be pouring Prosecco and dishing up delicate cucumber and egg sandwiches, as well as freshly-baked buttermilk scones with rhubarb jam and clotted cream.

Those with a sweet tooth can make a visit to the cake stand for a slice or two, or opt for summertime favourites such as strawberries and cream, or scoops ice cream.

In addition to the street food feast, guests can sip on Petersham Nurseries summer fruits cocktail, and Haye Farm beers and ciders.

Situated right by the Thames, visitors to Petersham Nurseries' Richmond home will be encouraged to make a day of it by bringing their own blankets and stocking up on treats from the Teahouse, before heading down to the river for their very own Platinum Jubilee picnic.

In true village fête style, musical entertainment will add to the celebratory atmosphere, while various competitions, including a colouring competition for children, will give the opportunity for guests to win some grand prizes.

Visitors looking for a quintessentially English celebration can take a seat alfresco in the nurseries and enjoy a summer afternoon tea.

In the Café, diners can enjoy lunch or dinner under the pergola entwined with a floral display created especially for the occasion - think scented old fashioned Roses, Delphiniums and silky white Peonies.

On the dessert menu a British classic of English strawberries with strawberry sorbet, crisp meringues and fragrant rose syrup from the Petersham Nurseries book, will feature.

At Petersham Nurseries Covent Garden, there will be music throughout the weekend and a special Jubilee afternoon tea. Beginning with delicate finger sandwiches filled with Coronation chicken, egg and watercress, or cucumber, visitors can then move on to plain and fruit scones with clotted cream and Petersham jam.

Finally, a selection of sweet treats includes British teatime favourites such as Victoria sponge, treacle tart, and lemon custard-topped shortbreads.

Over at La Goccia bar bartenders will be shaking up a Platinum Jubilee commemorative cocktail.

For those who can't make it to Petersham Nurseries over the Platinum Jubilee Weekend, there are plenty of treats available through the online shop to recreate the celebrations at home, or even to gift to a loved one.

There's a Gardening Set, while the English Tea Set includes a teapot, tea strainer, and a tin of Petersham Nurseries' own English Breakfast tea.

For the ultimate at-home Jubilee tea party, there's even a Florentine style hand-blown glass cake stand.
