As the clocks go back, heralding the long dark nights, a walk takes place on Thursday to highlight violence against women and girls.

The White Ribbon Torch Walk is taking place in Mortlake and Barnes.

White Ribbon is a global campaign that encourages people, especially men and boys, to act and change the culture that leads to abuse.

The walk is being organised by Richmond council and comes ahead of White Ribbon Day, which also known as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Previous walks have been held through the centres of Richmond and Twickenham.

The Council is a White Ribbon accredited organisation, which means it is committed to preventing violence against women and making the borough a safe place for everyone.

Everyone is able to join the short walk by turning up on the day.

Participants are encouraged to bring an electric torch or use their phone light to demonstrate the borough's solidarity with victims and a collective determination to eliminate the issue.

The walk takes place at 5pm on Thursday – November 3 – and starts at Mortlake Green - behind Mortlake Railway Station.
