A slimming organisation is adding weight to the claim that franchising can succeed in lean economic times.

Slimming World has reopened their groups across England since August 10. Whilst the consultants learn to navigate their way through lockdowns and tier changes, the team in South West London have been able to support their members throughout this time.

Local team developer Angela Myall said: "Despite the current business climate, Slimming World is growing.

"We have 19 groups in our South West London team and we have vacancies on the team for two new consultants: one for a Monday evening in Richmond and one on a Wednesday evening in Isleworth."

Angela has been a Slimming World franchisee for more than 12 years and runs a successful group on a Saturday morning in Weybridge.

She went on to become a local team developer 10 years ago and now works alongside eight other consultants covering 19 groups.

"Becoming a consultant for Weybridge really was the best decision I ever made," she said. "I really didn't enjoy my previous job working shifts, whereas now job satisfaction really is number one, helping other people change their lives like I have my own."

In 2019 Slimming World celebrated their golden anniversary as the UK's leading weight loss organisation.

It was a spectacular year for consultants and members, who even had a double decker golden bus travelling the UK doing cooking demonstrations.

Slimming World managing director Caryl Richards said: "In the current economic climate, people may be wary about starting up a business, which is why it is so important to choose an option that has a strong structure and excellent training and can be set up in your own area.

"It's also vital to make sure there's room for growth in the business area you're working in."

She added: "The increasing need to tackle obesity and the need for support for the whole family to adopt healthier lifestyles offers huge opportunities for Slimming World consultants based in their local communities."

Consultants are all former members of Slimming World. The role is part-time, with the potential to earn £100-£400 a week for working 10-15 flexible hours.

Training and marketing support is offered with a recognised brand that has been established for over 50 years. The organisation's head office at Alfreton, Derbyshire provides state of the art support along with centralised marketing and PR, in house magazines and websites plus nutrition and research expertise.

Angela said: "Purchasing a franchise gave me control and I really enjoy being my own boss. What you put in is what you get out and this is a reflection in not only the number of people you can help but also in the financial return.

"It's the best job in the world and one that is hugely rewarding."
