Hounslow Council Leader, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, has issued a response to 'online rumours' of potential anti-immigration protest taking place in Brentford tomorrow (Wednesday, 7 August).

According to Brentford TV, a Telegram group named 'SOUTHPORT WAKE UP,' with more than 12,000 members, is planning to stage protests tomorrow night.

In the message it reads: "WEDNESDAY NIGHT LADS. THEY WONT STOP COMING UNTIL YOU TELL THEM...NO MORE IMMIGRATION.

"8PM. MASK UP. SPREAD THIS AS FAR AND WIDE AS YOU CAN."

The message also lists a number of cities across the UK with immigration centres and offices - including Brentford, but Brentford TV has hidden the address of the targeted location.

In response to the social media messages circulating online, Cllr Rajawat issued a statement explaining that the Met Police has been made aware of the posts and that there is no place for "hate and division" in Hounslow.

Cllr Rajawat says: "We are aware of social media posts and WhatsApp messages which claim a protest is being planned in the Borough this week.

"We are working with the police to verify that claim. If there is any credibility to it, we will work with the police and other partners to prioritise the safety of our communities.

"We stand united as one community, One Hounslow. Our borough not only celebrates diversity but thrives on it.

"Our diversity is our strength, our vitality and the very essence of our community.

"We continue to take pride in our shared identity, our vibrant communities and the ways in which we have lived, worked and thrived together over many years. There cannot, and will not be any place for hate and division."

MPS Hounslow has also released a statement via X this evening, saying it will increase the amount of police officers in Brentford tomorrow.
