The Museum of Richmond has confirmed that nine "historic" artefacts were stolen from its collection on 6 December 2025.

The items were on loan to the museum from St Mary Magdalene Church (part of the Richmond Team Ministry) and Richmond Charities, including Hickey's Almshouses Chapel.

Among the stolen pieces are several valuable and significant silver objects, including a pair of Charles II silver flagons, a William III Britannia silver tazza (cup) and a Charles II silver sideboard plate.

In a statement, the museum said it was "deeply saddened" by the theft and is working closely with local authorities and the police to support the ongoing investigation.

The museum has also begun a review of its security arrangements in partnership with lenders to ensure all loaned items continue to receive the highest possible level of care and protection.

"These historic pieces represent an important part of Richmond's heritage, and their loss is felt profoundly by the Museum, Richmond Team Ministry, Richmond Charities and the wider community," the statement said.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact the police using reference number – 01/8297284/25.

The Museum of Richmond said it remains committed to safeguarding the heritage entrusted to it and will provide further updates when possible.
