Full story of the World War Two Bomb found on East Sheen Common

By The Editor   1st Mar 2021

When Chris Daniels and his nine-year-old son Charlie were out exploring East Sheen Common over the weekend they certainly got more than they bargained for.

As Richmond Nub News reported over the weekend they found a Second World War Bomb on the common.

Chris told Nub News: "I was out with my son playing in East Sheen Common.

"He was digging around and called me over that he'd found something.

"I dug a bit deeper and uncovered the object. I took a picture and google imaged searched it.

"I then sent it to an army friend of mine who confirmed that it was a World War Two bomb so I promptly called the police.

"When they arrived we showed the police to the middle of the bushes where they quickly closed off the area."

The police called in bomb disposal who removed it from the area safely.

This bomb in particular is believed to be a Luftwaffe "Tile Breaker" incendiary bomb. It is missing the tail part however still weighs approx 1kg.

The Luftwaffe (German airforce) dropped bombs across London during World War Two.

Richmond Park itself had artillery guns on it during World War Two to fight back against the Luftwaffe.

The police called Chris and Charlie to thank them for reporting the bomb quickly.

A similar incident occurred last year in Teddington when an unexploded bomb was found in the town.
