Fire in Barnes sparks 80 emergency calls and brigade response

Firefighters were called to a blaze near Lonsdale Road in Barnes on Sunday night after reports of a hedge being fully alight.
The London Fire Brigade received around 80 emergency calls from concerned members of the public starting at 9.48pm, with some callers suggesting nearby buildings may have been involved.
Due to the volume and urgency of the calls, six fire engines from Fulham, Chiswick, Richmond, and nearby stations were initially dispatched to the scene.
After firefighters assessed the situation, the response was scaled back to three fire engines as it became clear the fire was limited to a hedge.
The fire was fully extinguished by 10.30pm and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is believed to have been a stray firework or pyrotechnic flare.
