Department store House of Fraser has less than two weeks left in Richmond.

Its departure will mark the end of an era and significantly contributes to the changing face of the high street.

Residents association Richmond Society wrote on Instagram: "When House of Fraser moves out of its Richmond premises on September 20, over 200 years of retail history at 80 George Street will come to an end.

"It all began in 1795 when John Hunt Gosling founded a drapery store here which would later become known as Gosling & Sons."

House of Fraser shuts for good on Sunday, September 20 and the top two floors have already been closed and the merchandise moved downstairs.

As revealed by Richmond Nub News, the building's owners plan to convert it into a huge office block with floors for retail and leisure.

The plan was approved in principle by Richmond Council's Planning Committee in March but full planning permission has not yet been granted.
