An estate agent's application for new signs on Barnes High Street has been greenlit by Richmond Council. 

Wilfords London will be replacing The Boathouse Cafe after its plans for a new shopfront were approved. 

The granted works seek to replace the existing shopfront signage with new "sympathetically designed frontage that reflects the proportions and materials typical of historic high street architecture."

On behalf of Wilfords London, Randell Design Group, say in its application that the new signs will feature high quality timber, a heritage colour palette and traditional details. 

The estate agent will also reposition the entrance door to the centre of the shop, changing the existing arrangement. 

"This alteration is intended to introduce a more balanced and harmonious frontage, improving the overall aesthetic quality of the building while respecting the vertical and horizontal rhythms common to shopfronts in the area," explained Randell Design Group.

It added: "The proposed replacement shopfront at No. 4 Barnes Street represents a sensitive and appropriate enhancement of a non-designated heritage asset within a historically significant streetscape.  

"The design has been carefully developed to preserve and enhance the setting and character of the area and to support the reoccupation of the building for the intended use." 

Via its Instagram page, the estate agent has not yet revealed an opening date but has said that its "coming soon".

Founded by Geoff Wilford and Simon Welfare, Wilfords opened its first office on Holland Street, Kensington in 2011 and now has three locations in London – not including its Barnes site.
