A community choir today brought their voices and support to volunteers collecting humanitarian aid for Ukraine.

The small group came from the Ruils Community Choir, who practise every Tuesday at 11am at the Age UK Wellbeing Centre.

Gary Williams, the Community and Volunteer Manager, said: "The group's two volunteer group leaders - Maria and Antonia -thought it would be a wonderful idea after practise to sing their support as a thank-you for the amazing volunteer work being coordinated through the Prosperity Café to get desperately needed supplies to Ukraine."

The choir sang 'Dona Nobis Pacem' - Latin for 'Give Us Peace'.

Ruils is a local charity run by and for disabled people supporting disabled children and adults – and the elderly - to live independent lives.

Gary said: "The choir is one of a number of community activities that we run to bring together people of all ages, able-bodied and disabled people, those with mental health challenges and those seeking companionship/friendship due to isolation and loneliness."

Volunteer at Prosperity Café, Cathy Cooper, posted a video – filmed by George Sanne - of the off the cuff event on social media.

A JustGiving fundraising page fundraising page has been set up by the Twickenham Community Facebook group to show support for the owners of the café – Galyna Kosyn'ka and her partner Alex Yarema.

They have been forced to stop trading as a café in order to work full time as volunteers to organise the collection, sorting and despatch of donations to Ukraine via Poland.

The target is to raise £10,000 and the total this afternoon stood at an already impressive £9,475.
