The team of volunteer experts and repair superheroes is assembling on Saturday the 17th to fix household items from computers to crockery.

The Twickenham Repair Café is offering an antidote to the throwaway society by giving new life to products that have stopped working or need some TLC.

Everything from antique clocks to electric scooters have been fixed at the five repair sessions held to date.

The drive to repair items rather than just throwing them away is gaining momentum, helped by a desire to tread lightly on the planet and BBC series such as The Repair Shop.

One satisfied customer, Mary, said: "Thanks so much Brian you mended my antique 1900 clock, it is wonderful to hear the chime again, which I had not heard since I was a little girl in 1940's in Australia."

George said: "I could not use my electric scooter as no shops were interested in repairing the two punctures, but Tim did it - many thanks."

It appears that the reputation of the team is growing. Anne said: "I had to bring my lawn mower on the bus from Brentford to get it repaired, but it was worth it."

Other successful fixes include a lightsaber, birdhouse, a much loved children's cuddly toy and many bicycles.

The Repair Café is open tomorrow – Saturday – from 10.30am to 1pm at St Margarets Church Hall, East Twickenham. It takes place on the third Saturday of every month.
