Boris Johnson faces calls to resign over Downing Street parties he denied
Local MPs and councillors have called on Boris Johnson to go after a report confirmed boozy parties were held in Downing Street while the country was in lockdown.
The Sue Gray investigation has revealed that the Metropolitan Police are looking into 12 events that took place in Whitehall during the pandemic.
One of these appears to involve a party held in Boris Johnson's own flat in Downing Street.
The Prime Minister told the House of Commons that there were no parties and more recently that he believed the parties were work events.
The Gray report has concluded some of the parties should not have happened at all, while others should not have been allowed to develop as they should. It also identifies a failure of leadership and judgement.
The Lib-Dem Richmond Park MP, Sarah Olney, said: ""It is clear that while the country suffered and made enormous sacrifices, Number 10 partied with blatant disregard for the rules that it created and the police were enforcing.
"There was and continues to be a vacuum of leadership, a culture of double-standards and not a shred of accountability in sight.
"It's difficult to see how Conservative MPs can hide behind the "wait for the report" line anymore. Today's update was enough.
"It is time they did their patriotic duty, stood up for decency and sacked Boris Johnson before he sows even more irreversible damage."
Twickenham MP, Munira Wilson, who is self-isolating due to Covid, said: "The PM's response is utterly shameful.
"This country deserves so much better. Tory MPs must do the decent and patriotic thing and force him out."
She praised Theresa May for 'calling him out'.
Lib-Dem Councillor in Richmond, Roger Crouch, said: "The Conservative Party must now demonstrate that there isn't one rule for them and one rule for the rest of us.
"Boris Johnson has knowingly overseen a frat house culture at the heart of Government. For once in his life he must accept responsibility and resign immediately."
The Lib-Dem leader and Kingston MP, Ed Davey, said: "Everyone knows Boris Johnson broke the rules and lied to the country.
"It's time Conservative MPs did their patriotic duty, listened to their constituents and stood up for decency by sacking Boris Johnson. He must go before he does our country any more harm."
