The event space on Richmond Riverside is to host a series of free events for families across the summer.

The area at the bottom of Whittaker Avenue – next to the Brindisa restaurant – is set to be a hive of activity.

The initiative mirrors a series of music, dance and theatre gatherings last year, which proved popular with families.

It all begins this weekend – July 8-9 - with a tennis and Wimbledon themed event.

Activities on Saturday and Sunday include Virtual Reality tennis, themed photo-ops, a selection of tasty treats and a giant lounge to sit back and watch the fun and games.

The following weekend – July 15-16 – is dedicated to Wellbeing. It will offer guided meditation sessions, a relaxing chill out area, and there will be Be Well walks held in partnership with SoulHub.

Weekend three - July 22-23 – will carry a sun, sea and surf theme. Visitors will be invited to catch a wave on the surf simulator, visit the beach shack, plus there will be seaside-themed face painting for surfer dudes and ice creams.

Weekend four will host a Teddy Bears Picnic on both July 29 and 30. There will be guest appearances and walkabouts with Marmalade the Bear.

The events are being organised by Be Richmond BID, which is the group that represents town centre businesses in their efforts to attract people to the area and boost the local economy.

Be Richmond BID Manager, Ellen Storrar, said: "We are delighted to introduce Whittaker Avenue Weekends this year.

"Whittaker Avenue was such a successful installation last year and we're so pleased to have bought it back with a twist this year for all the community to enjoy!"
