A bakery with stores across Richmond has had a coronavirus outbreak at its main bakery.

Cavan Bakery will close all its branches from Wednesday (December 23).

"We regret to inform our loyal customers that our shops will be closed Dec 23 - Jan 1 due to an outbreak of Covid-19 in our main bakery," the company tweeted.

"This is unprecedented in our 92-year history and we are truly sorry to let you down.

"Orders will be refunded in due course. Have a safe Christmas."

Cavan runs eight stores across the borough, including three in Teddington, two in Hampton Hill, Hampton, Whitton and East Sheen.

It is understood some of these branches will be staying open today but won't receive any further stock from its main bakery in West Molesey until the outbreak has been dealt with.

The company received huge support from its customers.

Brian Stewart said: "So sorry to hear this. Hope your staff member is OK. Please thank all your staff for being so cheerful and helpful during this terrible year."

Cllr Julia Cambridge, deputy mayor of Richmond, said: "The Cavan on Sheen Lane is a well loved place to get bread, cakes and a takeaway snack.

"I can honestly say the women who serve there are so lovely! Stay safe."
