Amazon Fresh closes Richmond store after three years

Amazon has closed its Amazon Fresh store in Richmond after just three years of trading.
The branch, located on The Quadrant near Richmond Station, was the 10th Amazon Fresh outlet to open in the UK when it launched in December 2021.
Its closure is part of a wider rethink of the online retail giant's physical store strategy across the country.

The move follows previous closures of Amazon Fresh stores in nearby East Sheen, as well as Ealing and Wandsworth.
A spokesperson for Amazon told The Grocer: "Certain store locations work better than others, and after an assessment of our offering, we've decided to close our Amazon Fresh store in Richmond.
"We remain committed to Amazon Fresh and will continue to refine our portfolio of stores as we learn which locations and features resonate most with customers."

Despite the Richmond closure, Amazon has continued to invest in physical retail, opening a new store in West Hampstead in late 2024 featuring its 'Just Walk Out' technology.
Local shoppers can still access Amazon Fresh through the company's online platform, with same-day grocery delivery continuing to be available in the area.
