The filling station on Castelnau, Barnes has been granted permission to change its name and install new signs.

The approved application will see the Esso petrol station rebranded as Tesco.

In its proposals, Jennings Design Ltd said: "The branding signage will align the petrol station element of the site with the existing store, whose branding/signage is to remain as existing.

"The design of the signage is simplistic, as is the existing, and proposes blue background signs with Tesco's logo incorporated."

Tesco said works at the gas station are expected to begin next year.

Since 1998, Tesco and Esso have operated a partnership whereby Tesco stores have been placed within Esso petrol forecourts.

Tesco has been approached for comment.
