Many of you may have noticed camera crews, actors, and a lot of "ACTION!" being shouted on Richmond Green this week.

You may even have had to wait in your car while actors whizzed around The Green and Pembroke Villas in their own cars.

Nub News headed over and investigated a little further to find out that the filming was for a new adaptation of Neil Gaiman's comic book series The Sandman.

The comic book series ran for 75 issues between January 1989 and March 1996, and chronicles the adventures of Dream (of the Endless), who rules over the world of dreams.

Gaiman wrote the 11-part Netflix series and is one of the show's executive producers.

In a Behind The Scenes Sneak Peak video Gaiman says: "Sandman is the story of the place that we go when we close our eyes at night and it's called The Dreaming - and The Dreaming is ruled by Morpheus.

"For 32 years, anybody who read Sandman, and read the comics, that world is ending.

"I'm here at Shepperton Studios, and I'm getting to see what happens when you bring dreams to life."

Netflix announced the 11-part series in 2019 but filming was put on hold due to Covid, and didn't begin until October 2020.

There will be some differences to the original comics.

Gaiman told Digital Spy: "The Netflix version is going to begin in 2021, so Morpheus will have been kept prisoner in the Netflix version for 105 years rather than 70 years…"
