Update: Opening of new Lidl supermarket on Richmond Road

By The Editor 3rd Oct 2020

UPDATE: When is the new Lidl opening and how will parking be affected?

Lidl has given Richmond Nub News an update on the creation of its new Richmond Road store.

In July we heard that the supermarket was due to open in the autumn.

The store will have "state of the art" facilities including an in-store bakery, customer toilets and parking for both cars and bicycles.

Deer Park School is set to move into the first and second floors above it this December.

A computer-generated video tour of the new supermarket and school complex can be seen here.

A banner on the front of the construction site invites jobseekers to apply for roles at the new store, but we have not seen any vacancies listed over the past few weeks.

The nearest positions currently available on the Lidl Careers website are in Putney and Wimbledon.

There is the potential for heavy traffic on Richmond Road this Saturday (October 3) as two-way traffic lights are used outside the Lidl construction site.

Approached for an update on works, a Lidl spokesperson told us this week: "We can confirm that construction of our Richmond store is progressing and we look forward to updating the local community further in due course."
