It's official: Richmond is one of the happiest places to live in the UK.

A survey by Rightmove asked residents to tell us how they feel about where they live and rank their experiences on ten happiness factors.

  • 'I feel a sense of community spirit'
  • 'I feel a sense of belonging'
  • 'I can be myself'
  • The people are friendly and polite
  • Sports and recreational activities
  • Artistic and cultural activities
  • Opportunities to develop skills
  • Nature and green spaces
  • Essential local services including schools and doctors
  • Non-essential amenities

Richmond-upon-Thames finished 10th in the overall Happy at Home Index, and we ranked as London's happiest place for the sixth year in a row.

Tim Bannister of Rightmove said: "Our latest research shows that despite all the challenges that this year has brought, many people have been able to reconnect with their local area and community which has had a positive effect on how they feel about where they live."

St Ives topped the UK charts, Llandrindod Wells was Wales' most happy place and Perth came out top in Scotland.
